Moving to another country to study is exciting — and full of paperwork. Use this checklist to stay on track.

3–6 months before

  • Accept your offer and check visa or residence permit requirements for your country.
  • Start your housing search: apply for university or public halls and shortlist residences and rooms near your campus.
  • Check whether you need proof of funds or a blocked account.
  • Arrange health insurance.

1–2 months before

  • Secure your accommodation with a written contract.
  • Book your travel for arrival before orientation week.
  • Join student groups and post a roommate ad if you plan to share.

First two weeks after arrival

  • Register your address with the local authorities where required.
  • Open a local bank account and get a local SIM.
  • Collect your student card and apply for a student transport pass.
  • Buy second-hand furniture and essentials from the student marketplace.
